There's a hole in Alayna's head!

Alayna has lost her first tooth. She lost it New Year's Eve. She drew this picture and wrote the story for her Kindergarten class's Tooth Journal.

Snow! Take 2

Well, it has continued to snow. We've got a lot on the ground now. Pretty much everything was shut down this weekend, and we both stayed home on Monday.
Snow Angel 2.0: the snow was much better for angels today.
Snowman: Alayna was more interested in eating the snow than building a snowman. It wasn't really good enough snow for snowmen anyway. There was a layer of ice in the middle of all the snow.

There were a bunch of people sledding out in the street. Every once in a while someone would yell "car" and they would all move out of the way. After a little while a family strode up on some cross-country skis.

Arctic Blast 2008!!!

...at least that what it's being called on the TV. It really has been quite the storm. We thought last Sunday was bad, and then it just didn't stop.

Church Pageant

The church pageant was almost cancelled this year because of the snow, but the show must go on. Some of the roles were reassigned, but it went pretty well. Alayna was a little angel.

Snow!

It's actually been a year since I posted anything here?! OK. I guess now that I have internet and a good computer I don't have much excuse. Anyway, it is snowing here. Pretty hard, and it's really cold. We made it out to have some fun, though...

Snow Angel: You can see that there isn't really that much snow, about 1" this afternoon. But the whole city is shut down.
The slide still works in the snow:

Doesn't it look like a good day for swimming?

Rolling down the hill:
Evidently, this is how puppies eat snow. They push their heads through the snow and lick.

Sorrento Daycare Concert

Alayna's daycare center held a Christmas concert. It was absolutely adorable. They all sang really well.

Christmas Tree

It's Christmas time, which means going out in a horse drawn carriage in the snow to get a tree fresh from the forest and getting the servants to set it up in the foyer. Either that, or driving to a local farm and getting your 5 year old to cut one down for you.

Here's Alayna and her Uncle Roger cutting down one of the trees. Mom and Dad and Jen and Roger and Alayna and I went to a great farm in Forest Grove and got 4 trees within 20 minutes. And they all look great in our living rooms.

Learning about what makes these fir trees, and not pine trees... You'll have to ask her what the differences are, I don't remember.

Kindergarten

Alayna is a school age kid now. Here is her first day of school. This is her teacher Mrs. Culver, in her classroom.

The second week of school, she started riding the school bus. Here she is that Monday. We weren't standing on the right side of the street, and the bus driver didn't know we would be there, so she drove right by us. So she got to be driven to school again. Take 2: Actually riding the bus to school! She's a little short to easily climb the stairs, but she makes it OK.
